Key Components of High-Quality CPR
- Begin compressions under 10 seconds after diagnosing the cardiac arrest condition
- Your focus must be on pushing hard and fast
- Compress the chest at a rate of 100 to 120 compressions per minute
- Compress the chest to a depth up to 2 inches (5 cm), but no more than 2.4 inches (6 cm) for adults
- Allow the chest to recoil before you start the second set of compressions
- Minimize breaks between chest compressions under 10 seconds
- Avoid extreme ventilations
- Each ventilation should last about 1 second
- Deliver just enough capacity that the chest begins to rise
