Key Components of High-Quality CPR

  • Begin compressions under 10 seconds after diagnosing the cardiac arrest condition
  • Your focus must be on pushing hard and fast
  • Compress the chest at a rate of 100 to 120 compressions per minute
  • Compress the chest to a depth up to 2 inches (5 cm), but no more than 2.4 inches (6 cm) for adults
  • Allow the chest to recoil before you start the second set of compressions
  • Minimize breaks between chest compressions under 10 seconds
  • Avoid extreme ventilations
  • Each ventilation should last about 1 second
  • Deliver just enough capacity that the chest begins to rise
